The goal of this campaign is to collect as much donations as possible, the sum of which we will offer Donald Trump as a consolation, should he decide to step down from the office and withdraw from the upcoming elections. This quid pro quo deal is not being offered to Donald Trump the president of the United States, but to Donald Trump the private individual. He has already suffered immense losses from his term as president – as he claims – and we’re only here to pay him back.
In his role as president of the United States, Donald Trump has called many rights and freedoms into question – a fact we find frightening and unacceptable. As the leader of the free world he is the most powerful man on earth, and nations should be able to look to him for guidance. But the culture he creates through his language and conduct is not to be admired and harms society in the long run.
If Donald Trump does not accept the BEST DEAL EVER, the money we collect will be donated to charitable institutions that endeavor to fight burgeoning global climate of populism and neglect for established social values. Endeavors that include the protection of human rights, the preservation of the environment, the promotion of education, and the protection of press freedom and the freedom of expression. The charities we have selected are UNICEF, Friends of the Earth, Avocats sans frontières, and the International Press Institute.
Whether the money raised by this campaign ends up with Trump or in charity is, in the end, irrelevant to us. One way or another, the world will be a better place for it.
Until April 1, 2020 we will collect private donations from all over the globe. The money raised will be offered to Donald Trump in exchange for possibly stepping down from office and withdrawing from the upcoming election. We are appealing to Donald Trump as a private individual to retire from politics, and this deal is our way of compensating him, at least in part, for the immense losses he claims to have suffered during his time as public servant.
Donald Trump will then be given a month until the April 30, 2020 to decide whether to withdraw from the elections. If he withdraws, the money collected (minus fees and taxes) will be transferred to his bank account on the day the new president is inaugurated. If he does not withdraw, we will transfer the money to four charities, namely UNICEF, Friends of the Earth, Avocats Sans Frontières, and the International Press Institute.
Personally, we have nothing against Donald Trump. And yes, he was elected through a democratic process and is therefore a legitimate president. What bothers us, and the reason we chose Trump over any other politician or dictator, is simple: as the leader of the free world, the United States president functions as the biggest role model in the world. A role model who misbehaves, consistently violates rights and attempts to establish such conduct as the social standard sends the wrong signal and justifies similar destructive behavior in others.
The development in international politics alone provides a glimpse of where this is leading: populism sprouting up in many corners of the world and the slow demise of constructive international cooperation. Cooperation that, in our opinion, is the primary foundation for overcoming all the challenges to our future.
Trump said it himself: his term in office has cost him three to five billion dollars. This has sparked our deepest compassion and we want to help the poor man enjoy a quiet retirement – ASAP 😉
The „BEST DEAL EVER” is an idea by two Germans Lutz Reuter and Dr. Michaela Menken. Their friends, family and colleagues were closely involved in its design and implementation. Together they founded an association: BDE Verein zur Verbesserung der kommunikativen Kultur (BDE Association for the Improvement of Communication Culture).
We believe in a world in which diversity and community are perceived as strengths, a world in which challenges can be overcome only as a single (global) collective. Activities that are geographically, economically, or culturally inward-looking and divide the global community into factions steer us in the wrong direction. We believe it will only lead to serious difficulties in the future. For this reason, we strive to work towards engaging stakeholders in a constructive dialogue. And if that means raising “money for crooks” to promote the global community, then that’s what we’ll do.
The video is supposed to show what would happen if respectable politicians behaved the way Donald Trump does. If heads of state began threatening each other with insults and disregarding all respect when dealing with one another, would this be the kind of world we’d want to raise our children in? Through this video, we hope to rouse a sense of urgency and a collective willingness to contribute to a deal that will sweeten Trump’s (hopefully speedy) retirement.
What these politicians think of our campaign is unknown to us. We would, however, like to extend our formal and unconditional apology to all officials whose footage we have used in making the video. Our intention was not to discredit them or to tarnish their reputation. Instead, our intention was to create impactful content for the purpose of social activation in order to raise as large an amount of donations as possible. It was therefore absolutely necessary to select precisely the personalities from whom one would never expect behavior like Trump’s. Only then can the relentless assault on our morals be highlighted. In this sense, being among the chosen individuals in the video could rather be seen as a compliment – satirically of course. We hope, at least, that this is how our campaign will be understood.
The Best Deal Ever is a private initiative originating from Germany. This is why the website is available in German. The video, on the other hand, was produced in English in order to reach as many people from all over the world as possible. Unfortunately, we do not have the personal resources to make both the website and the video available in other languages. If you would like to add subtitles to the video in your language, we’d be happy to include them. Just drop us a line.
With this campaign we hope to rouse people into action by donating for a good cause. However, although a social discussion is absolutely necessary, we are not interested in a discussion that backslides into a digital brawl. There are already an infinite number of forums and channels that provide an arena for this kind of exchange.
Donations can be made via PayPal or via a bank transfer to the campaign’s account below:
Account name: BDE
IBAN: DE17 7954 0049 0103 3851 00
The amount you donate is entirely up to you. Whether it be a dollar, fifty or a hundred will depend on your means and how much you personally want Trump to step down. Our aim is not to raise a large sum of money from a handful of influential people, but rather to raise a substantial amount from as many small donations as possible. For this reason, achieving the widest possible reach is an equally important goal for us in order to magnify the relevance of the topic in the international community.
In short, every dollar counts. Whether the total sum contributes to Trump’s retirement or is divided among the four chosen charities, every donated dollar will contribute to improving the world.
No, there are no additional costs to making a donation.
Donations will be accepted until the April 1, 2020. Donald Trump with then be given a month until the April 30, 2020 to decide whether to step down and withdraw from the elections. If he steps down, the money collected (minus fees and taxes) will be transferred to his bank account on the day the new president is inaugurated. If he does not step down, money will be divided among four charitable institutions of our choice (UNICEF, Friends of the Earth, Avocats Sans Frontières, and the International Press Institute). The campaign ends once all the money has been transferred.
We are two private individuals with an idea, and we have founded an association with a group of friends and colleagues – BDE Verein zur Verbesserung der kommunikativen Kultur (BDE Association for the Improvement of Communication Culture).
The bank account for this campaign will serve only two purposes: to receive donations within the framework of the campaign and to distribute money accordingly when the campaign is through. Of course, we keep all the records and make all revenues and expenses transparent. We employ an accountant and a tax consultant.
Certain expenses within the scope of the campaign must nevertheless be financed by the donations. These expenses include:
– Processing fees for the PayPal Donate payment process
– Third-party costs such as hosting and website administration costs, as well as the costs associated with maintaining the social media channels of the campaign.
We do not issue donation receipts, therefore the donations cannot be tax deducted. The reason behind this is we do not expect large and substantially tax-reducing individual donations. Instead we are aiming for numerous small donations from as many people as possible. We would like to emphasize, however, that the size of your donation is still entirely up to you.
We do not make donor names public on the website because we want to avoid potential misuse of the information. However, we will continuously communicate the number of donors and the total amount raised on the site.
If you want your donation to be known to friends and acquaintances, feel free to click the Share button after you have completed your donation. If you want to spread the word about the campaign, you can also share any of the posts from our social media channels to your private social networks. You can find us here:
No country has been explicitly excluded from the campaign’s communication and donation process. However, in countries where the Internet is censored, we cannot guarantee visibility. A PayPal account is required for a simple one-click donation, but we also accept bank transfers to the specified campaign account. In general, the bank transfer should be possible for all countries.
Regardless of what we think, the question of whether Donald Trump will accept the offer is, to us, irrelevant. If Donald Trump takes the deal and steps down, the world will be great again. But if he doesn’t, the money raised will be divided equally among four charitable institutions that endeavor to fight burgeoning global climate of populism and neglect for established social values: Friends of the Earth, UNICEF, Avocats Sans Frontières, and the International Press Institute. The beauty of this campaign is that whatever the outcome, the world will be made a better place, if at least a little.
In our opinion, particular emphasis must be given to strengthening the values and freedoms Donald Trump has endangered during his time as president. Values such as justice and human rights, climate and environmental protection, education and opportunities for children, and freedom of the press. To this end, we have selected the following four international organizations:
The server hosting our campaign website is located in Germany. Google Analytics runs in the background, and its data will be provided in the data protection disclaimer of our campaign page. Data used for our communication strategy is limited to anonymous visitor counts, donor counts and total donations. The donation process itself will take you to an external PayPal page, whose data we have no access to. Account information from received donations via bank transfers remain with the bank. All the data we collect will be confidential and will be used exclusively for the stated purpose within the scope of the campaign. All data will be deleted within the statutory period. The data that we collect via our polls will be limited to the answers.
Of the data collected, only anonymous visitor counts, donor counts and the total donations will be used for real-time campaign communications. All data will be deleted within the legal timeframe succeeding the completion of the campaign.
